What do we want for a university?

What does it mean to us?

Why do youth people feel lost in the universities?

Have you ever thought about what the mission and responsibility of a university are?

Let us go back to the essence and philosophy of education.

What the higher education should give us is to let us make self-examinations.  Also, professors should help us to grow up both academically and spiritually and to realize how struggling the life is.

Take Harvard for example, as we know that Harvard is the leader of all universities.  We label it as the model, but some people said that Harvard is a famous and outstanding university without its soul.

Nowadays the consumerism and competitionism  has invaded universities.  Some prefessors hold their perfection and enthusiasm at first, but the next, they find out that they're helpless with this incompatible society.  More and more professors have problems on how to teach students, what to give to students, what to depend to grade students, and how to help students to arouse their sense of reponsibility.

Education seems so hard between ideal perfection and reality.

I think good professors should dicuss the way of grading with students, decide what subjects they are going to talk about, how deeper of these subjects we are going to be, and what kinds of outsources we can use to make our teaching better in class.

University is now a place hiding talented students. Professors avoid talking about some specific issues, such as how to make use of military, the ethic debate, the law of abortion problems, the gay and lesbian issues, the religion and so on.

Even if some professors at times do talk about these, but they usually stay at the common-sense level superficially just as the news level.

They've never gone deeper to let us think!  They could've enlightened us on those issues.

We've learned the theories from books, and we also have to learn the experiences from professors.  After all, the theory and experience can't be disconnected.

Being a professor, his or her duty is to lead us to arouse our sense of responsibility towards the world!
